What’s New On The Pro 3 Charging Case

The Pro 3 case retains the same general shape as the Pro 2 case, but every user-facing detail has been revised. A lanyard attachment hole sits on the left edge — now standard rather than optional. The rear physical pairing button is replaced by a capacitive sensor on the front that registers a double-tap when the lid is open.

The charging status LED is no longer visible as a physical dot; it is embedded inside the case material and only glows when the lid is open or a charger is connected. The case gains a small internal speaker for Precision Finding, using the U2 chip to show directional arrows and distance on your iPhone screen — about 50% farther range than the Pro 2’s version.

The USB‑C port on the bottom supports fast wired charging, and the case works with standard MagSafe and Qi wireless pads. Both the earbuds and case carry an IP57 rating, meaning submersion in up to one meter of fresh water for 30 minutes — an upgrade from the Pro 2’s IP54 splash resistance.

How To Pair And Locate The Case

Open the case with the earbuds inside, then double-tap the front near where the LED would be visible when the lid is open. An iPhone or iPad will detect the Pro 3 and display a pairing prompt. The same gesture reconnects after a factory reset.

Precision Finding uses the same Find My system with better range. On your iPhone, go to Settings > AirPods, select your Pro 3, tap Find, then Find Case. If nearby, your iPhone displays an arrow and distance in feet; if farther away, tap Directions. The built-in speaker emits a chirp when triggered from the Find My app.

Battery Life, Charging, And Fit Checks

A five-minute charge provides roughly one hour of playback.

Apple includes the acoustic seal test. Go to Settings > Your AirPods, scroll to Fit & Comfort, tap Test Acoustic Seal, then Continue and Play. The test reports whether the seal is good or requires a different ear-tip size.

Common Confusions And Compatibility

Pro 2 owners may reach for a back button — there is none; the capacitive front area is the only way to trigger pairing mode without the Find My app. The Pro 3 case measures 1.86 by 2.45 by 0.86 inches, slightly taller and wider than the Pro 2 case (1.84 × 2.38 × 0.85 inches). Cases, skins, and grips designed for the Pro 1 or Pro 2 will not fit.

The invisible LED shines through the front face only when the lid is open, when charging, or when battery is critically low; checking charge status requires opening the lid briefly.

While the IP57 rating allows submersion up to one meter for 30 minutes, Apple does not recommend intentional swimming or showering. Saltwater, chlorinated water, and soap can degrade rubber seals. Rinse with fresh water and dry thoroughly if it contacts anything other than tap water.
