If you are in a rental, or simply want a waterproof shelf without holes, adhesive mounting is the primary method. Most systems work on smooth tile, but the difference between a shelf that falls off in a week and one that stays anchored for years comes down to surface prep and patience during the cure. Surface Prep: The Single Step That Determines Success

The adhesive surface must be free of dust, grease, lime, and moisture. A basic wipe-down is not enough. Start by cleaning the area with a soft cloth and warm water to remove soap scum, then go over it with rubbing alcohol on a lint-free cloth and let it dry completely. Once the wall is prepped, do not touch the area with bare fingers before applying any adhesive.
